The Council on Culture and Arts for Tallahassee/Leon County (COCA)
is proud to work in partnership with area and national organizations
to support and promote the arts. Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra is just
one of the arts programs COCA helps to support and promote. Others include:
• Artist Directory – a virtual listing of the Tallahassee
area’s talented visual artists, musicians, dancers, authors,
and theatre personnel.
• Arts in Education programs – promotes broad arts education
through the school system, by helping to make the arts an integral
part of education in Leon County and assisting educators.
• Arts in Public Places - curates fine art and crafts exhibitions
in the 2nd Floor City Hall Gallery and the Artport Gallery at the
Airport.
• Calendar of Events at MoreThanYouThought.Com - What is there
to do in Tallahassee? More Than You Thought! Check the calendar for
upcoming exhibits, shows, concerts, tours, lectures, auditions, rehearsals,
meetings, films, festivals, special events, and more. While you're
there, add your organization's events free.
• Capital Culture Magazine – A guide to arts and culture
in Florida's Big Bend contains listings about more than 200 arts,
cultural, historical sites, and venues.
• COCA-Notes Blog - Visit the COCA-Notes Blog to find out about
calls for artists and writers, auditions, jobs, volunteer opportunities,
grant opportunities, special events, and more.
• First Friday Gallery Hop – on the first Friday of every
month, local museums and galleries stay open from at least 6 p.m.
to 9 p.m. with no admission charge, and often featuring openings,
receptions, and special events for the public.
• Grant Programs - COCA administers more than $1 million each
year in re-granting programs for the City of Tallahassee and Leon
County. Developed by a community task force, the grant guidelines
are reviewed and revised every year. More than 30 grants are awarded
each year to local non-profit arts and cultural groups based on artistic
excellence and service to citizens and visitors.
• Some Enchanted Evenings - Many of our local citizens have
physical or economic challenges that keep them from attending cultural
events. This program matches social service groups with local event
producers. Arts groups provide free tickets; social service agencies
identify individuals in need of assistance and arrange transportation
for them.
